DFG Research Group FOR 5173 “Reconfiguration and Internalization of Social Structure (RISS)” Funded!

It’s now official: our DFG Research Group FOR 5173 “Reconfiguration and Internalization of Social Structure (RISS)” will be funded by the German Research Foundation! Funding for an initial four years has been approved, and the research group will receive a total of around 3 million euros. The project focuses on multi-dimensional social change and its political effects. Will the socio-structural mixing of people with different group affiliations lead to more societal integration? Or is the opposite the case where identification with society will decrease? The RISS research group wants to develop and empirically test a new theory of politicized social structure. The spokesperson is sociologist Daniela Grunow of Goethe University, where most of the group’s members are located. Richard Traunmüller from the University of Mannheim acts as co-speaker of RISS.
